Mold Testing & Remediation
There are several different methods used to remediate mold.
Healthy Air USA provides a variety of mold testing and remediation solutions throughout metro Atlanta. Depending on the type of fungus, amount of active spore colonies, and location and general condition of the area, one or more of the following removal methods will be recommended:
Fogging the Affected Area
Fogging allows an antimicrobial to be atomized (made into a minute mist) so that it may be effectively delivered to every part of the targeted area. Attics, crawl spaces, large rooms, and new construction are ideal for fogging because it can reach distances of 30 feet and covers every inch of the space. We use several different types of antimicrobials based on the sensitivities of the home’s occupants.
We use professional grade Ultra Low Volume (ULV) Foggers, which generate atomized fog particles by using high pressure. By reducing the droplets to extremely small size and dispersing them under great pressure, our ULV foggers can effectively treat every crack and crevice. The ability to be able to calibrate the machine to produce droplets of the optimum size for the type of antimicrobial being used make ULV fogging the method of choice whenever possible.
Cleaning, Encapsulation, or Removal of Affected Material
Building materials that have growth may need to be removed in order to remediate mold, but many times they can be treated in place. This type of remediation includes a thorough cleaning of the affected area to kill existing spore colonies and inhibit future growth. In all cases, we choose antimicrobials based on the sensitives of the home’s occupants. If desired, the area can be encapsulated with a growth-inhibiting material that minimizes the chance of spores becoming airborne from spaces in between the cleaned surfaces.
As with any remediation project, a plan for controlling the humidity in the affected area is recommended. Water damage is responsible for many fungal problems, but unregulated humidity in basements and crawl spaces is a more common problem that also needs to be addressed, particularly if you live in a hot and humid climate.
HVAC Sanitation should be done in conjunction with duct cleaning and sealing. This will help kill spores left behind by the cleaning process.
After finding out we had mold in our home, we knew to turn to HeathyAir. They came out the next day and did an environmental inspection to find the cause of the mold. Once they were finished with the inspection, we had them go ahead and remove the mold over the next couple days. They were very nice and very thorough.
