Vapor Barrier

Vapor Barriers

Healthy Air offers crawl space vapor barriers which are made from strong, heavy-duty materials for local area homeowners. We realize that a lot of homeowners don’t give much thought to their crawl space or what happens inside of it. However, it’s important to make note of the fact that what goes on in your crawl space has an impact on the rest of your home. If you have a crawl space without any kind of liner installed, you likely have moisture and excessive humidity levels in this area of your home. Sure, you probably never go into your crawl space, but you still need to be sure that you are having it taken care of so that problems don’t arise for the rest of your home. Wet Crawl Space

A wet crawl space is dangerous. It can cause damage to the wooden structures underneath your home, including wooden support beams and floor joists. Over time, the decay and rotting of these wooden surfaces can endanger the structural integrity of your entire home. Also, a leaky crawl space with high humidity levels acts as the perfect breeding ground for dangerous mold and bacteria growth. Mold can cause a variety of health problems for you and your loved ones, including:

  • Sinus Infections
  • Breathing Problems
  • Coughing
  • Rashes
  • Asthma Attacks
  • Allergies
  • Fatigue

These are just a few of the serious medical problems which can result from the growth of mold underneath your home. Mold needs three things to grow – moisture, humidity, and organic material to feed off of. If just one of these factors is missing, mold will not be able to grow. When we install our crawl space vapor barriers, they will be attached to the wall and floor of your crawl space. Moisture and high levels of humidity will not be able to get inside and cause problems. Also, when you have a sealed crawl space, it will keep out unwanted pests, such as termites, rats, snakes, spiders, mice, and other critters.

Vapor Barrier Installation

As mentioned above, during the vapor barrier installation, the liner will be attached to your crawl space walls and floor. The vapor barrier we use is durable and is 14 mil thick. It’s attached using secure fasteners so that it never comes loose and causes problems for your home and for the overall health and well-being of your family. We have a crew of trained crawl space professionals who will be able to install your vapor barrier quickly and without any damage to your landscaping or lawn.

We recently moved into a new house and the crawl space was very moist and unusable. We had the guys at HealthyAir come and put in a vapor barrier to seal it off. They recommended we use a dehumidifier and insulation to really make it protected for good. We can now use it for our extra storage.
